Care Guide
Tempany jewellery has been designed and created with the upmost care – and we want you to get the most out of every piece. Whilst in life we usually advocate breaking the rules, the following care instructions are serious, to ensure your pieces last as long as possible. If you have any questions at all regarding the care of your piece, please contact us.
Wear
Silver and Gold are natural metals, which are delicate and will change over time. They have a tendency to scratch, so we recommend removing your jewellery when sleeping, doing manual work and exercising. Avoid direct contact with chemicals, creams and perfumes and avoid wearing when swimming.
Storage
Each piece should be stored separately, in the original Tempany packaging, or in the individual compartment of a jewelry box. This will minimise any scratching, or tangling of chains.
Earrings
Over time, earring backings can loosen. Please take care to check the strength of your earring backings before each wear. They should feel secure on the posts (stems) of your earrings.
Cleaning
Solid Sterling Silver and Gold can be cleaned using silver or gold polishing cloths. Otherwise, a mixture of hot water, cloudy ammonia and detergent works well, with a very gentle cloth (an old tea towel works well).
Gold plated or Gold Vermeil pieces should be cleaned very gently with a polishing cloth, or warm soapy water and a gentle cloth. Over time, plating will wear off so take care to use a light touch.
Pieces which are oxidised (‘blackened’) are intentionally created that way. Blackening will rub off over time – take care not to over polish blackened areas.
